Oregon Ducks quarterback Bo Nix is making his dreams come true. On Thursday night, the Denver Broncos selected Nix with the twelfth pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Nix is the latest Oregon quarterback to be selected in the first round of the NFL Draft, following in the footsteps of former Heisman Trophy winner Marcus Mariota (Round 1, pick 2 2015) and Justin Herbert (Round 1, pick 6 2020).

It was a long journey to the NFL for the Pinson, Alabama native. Nix was a five-star recruit coming out of Pinson Valley High School and spent three seasons at Auburn prior to transferring to Oregon.

In Eugene he completely revamped his game and resurrected his football career under offensive coordinator Kenny Dillingham in 2022, and eventually Will Stein in 2023.

Nix was one of four finalists for the 2023 Heisman Trophy following a stellar 2023 season that saw him become one of the most decorated quarterbacks in Oregon program history. The 6-foot-2 passer threw for 4,508 yards and 45 touchdowns against just 3 interceptions. His body of work also earned him Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Year Honors for the 2023 season in what was a great year for quarterbacks out West alongside Caleb Williams and Michael Penix Jr.

The Oregon passer completed 77.4% of his passes, a mark that set the new NCAA record for completion percentage. Nix also contributed with his legs, scampering for 234 rushing yards and 6 touchdowns on 54 carries, nearly half of his attempts in 2022.

He also set an FBS record for most career starts at 61 and took home a staggering seven Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week Awards, which is the most in the conference’s history.

During his time at Oregon Nix broke the single-season records for completions (364), passing yards (4,508) and passing touchdowns (45). He became the first Duck quarterback to ever post a completion percentage of 70% or higher in one season, doing it twice between 2022 and 2023.

Nix has been lauded for his balanced skillset, his football IQ and accuracy among other traits of his game. Expect him to compete for the starting role against Zach Wilson in the 2024 season.

The 2024 NFL season should be a fun one to watch for Oregon fans with former Ducks Marcus Mariota in Washington, Justin Herbert with the Los Angeles Chargers, and now Nix with the Broncos.
