Oregon QB Dillon Gabriel Opens Up on Transfer Decision
The Ducks once again went into the transfer portal looking for the man to lead the offense. And why not after the success Oregon had with Bo Nix coming from Auburn.
This time it was Oklahoma’s starting quarterback making a move. Dillon Gabriel was one of the most highly coveted quarterbacks in the transfer portal but the Ducks were one of the immediate favorites.
Now Gabriel is in Eugene leading the Ducks through Spring ball. He spoke with media Tuesday to talk about his decision to transfer and why Oregon was the right fit.
On why Oregon:
“I knew the opportunity, talking to coach Lanning. It was kind of a no-brainer. Knowing what they had coming back as well as what they had coming in. Like I said, no-brainer.”
On the Transition:
It’s been good. I love Eugene. I love the area, it’s closer to home. So I can’t complain. The adjustment period, it’s been real. Being where I’m at, this being my last year, it’s been super refreshing.
Impact of Marcus Mariota:
“It was huge, as someone you always look up to. As a quarterback from Hawaii. That’s something as a little kid I still smile and don’t ever take for granted. That’s the guy I always look up to.”

“It’s next quarterback up. I’m just doing my part. I’ve had talks with Bo and he’s had time to come to practice. Just little conversations here and there. That’s what’s cool about Oregon, having access to a bunch of guys that have done it.”
Growth of Second Transfer:
“My first transfer there’s a lot of things you let slip through the cracks. Now I’m keeping that emphasis of keeping my routines and learning as fast as possible.”
On Will Stein’s Offense:
“I think his track record, what coach has been able to do at a bunch of different spots, at a bunch of different levels. Proven concept. I think when you look at the offensive side of the ball it’s how well you can stay ahead of the chains and move the ball.”
On Fun-Loving Personality:
“I tell everyone I love to have a lot of fun off the field. But when I’m on the field, it’s a flip that switches. We’ll have our fun off the field, but when I get on the field I’m commanding.”
