With the University of Oregon’s spring academic quarter beginning on Monday, Dan Lanning’s Ducks are set to resume spring practices this week.
Oregon will hold the third of its 15 spring practices on Tuesday at approximately 9:30 a.m. PT at the Hatfield-Dowlin Complex outdoor practice fields.
That will mark the end of a 17-day hiatus that coincided with spring break for UO students.

The break, according to Lanning, is advantageous for Oregon from a scheduling standpoint.
“For us, it’s about spacing,” Lanning said on March 18. “You’d like to go Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday for practices. We don’t want to go into May because we have a recruiting window in May that we want to go get our coaches out in May. And then, truly it kind of gives a build-up. I think it makes our players think about this a little bit on spring break rather than rolling in.
“We did a lot of walkthroughs going in. But yeah, just more than anything is timing with where the recruiting windows fall.”
When spring ball began on March 16, the Ducks welcomed 26 newcomers — 10 via the transfer portal, and 16 via the 2023 signing class. On Tuesday, their roster is expected to feature a few additional newcomers — although, it’s unclear at this point exactly how many.
Tysheem Johnson, a safety who transferred in from Ole Miss during the offseason, will be among that group.
“I don’t have an exact number, but we’ll see a few more guys come in when the next term starts,” Lanning said on March 16.
Oregon will practice Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday this week. As is typically the case, practices this spring will be closed to the public. The opening 15-20 minutes of practice will be open to reporters and photographers.

While players and assistant coaches were not made available for interviews during Oregon’s first two spring practices, that will change during the month of April.
Lanning is scheduled to meet with reporters on Tuesday. Defensive coordinator Tosh Lupoi and a select group of players will be available on Thursday.
On Saturday, first-year offensive coordinator Will Stein will meet with reporters for the first time since his hiring. A group of select players will be available for interviews that day, too.
The Ducks’ spring game is set for Saturday, April 29, while the final spring practice will take place the following Monday.
