Dan Lanning and the Oregon Ducks closed out the 2023 recruiting cycle on a high note by landing one of the top uncommitted prospects in the nation.

On Wednesday morning, Oregon recieved a commitment from 4-star cornerback Rodrick Pleasant. The Gardena, Calif., product is the No. 98 prospect in the class of 2023 and the No. 9 cornerback, according to the On3 Consensus. At 5-foot-10, 167 pounds, Pleasant is an elite sprinter who plans to compete for the UO track team.

Pleasant chose the Ducks over USC, UCLA, and countless others.

Pleasant’s commitment is expected to be Oregon’s last of National Signing Day. The Ducks began the week firmly entrenched in the top 10 of the On3 Consensus team rankings and solidified their position by landing Pleasent.

Prior to Pleasant’s commitment, Oregon sat at No. 9 in the On3 Consensus team rankings with a score of 92.203. At that point, the Ducks were sandwiched between Notre Dame at No. 8 and Clemson at No 10.

After Pleasant’s commitment, they moved up to No. 8, ahead of the Fighting Irish, and now have a score of 92.479.

Here’s a rundown of what the Ducks are getting in Pleasant.

Rodrick Pleasant high school scouting summary

“Versatile speedster who has a claim as the fastest prospect in the 2023 cycle. Set the California state record with a historic 10.14 second mark in the 100 meters in the state finals as a junior. Also ran an outstanding 20.40 second time in the 200 meters. One of the fastest prep sprinters in the nation. Has a smaller frame at 5-foot-10 and around 170 pounds. Plays all over the field at Gardena Serra, but most likely projects as a cornerback long-term. Has the speed to stick in the hip pocket of wide receivers on Friday nights. Also shows excellent makeup speed when out of phase in the camp setting. A willing tackler as a run defender. A threat to score anytime the ball is in his hands as a receiver or kick returner. Lacks some length for the position with a neutral wing span and will need to show he can make plays on the ball in contested situations.”

On3 Team Rankings, powered by the On3 Consensus

The On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Ranking is our best work yet. It is the most advanced, complete and unbiased ranking measurement in the industry, yet its simplicity makes it easy for fans to follow and understand.

+ The On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Ranking is the only ranking that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies: On3, 247Sports, Rivals.com and ESPN.

+ The On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Ranking is the only ranking that equally weights the four major media companies at 25%. Other industry composite ratings disproportionately weight their own rating.

+ The On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Ranking solves the problem of varying class sizes during the recruiting cycle. It compiles the highest-rated commits for each team up to a total based on a rolling average of current total commitments among Power 5 schools.

With this model, there are no bonus points for having more commitments than other teams and only small deductions occur when a team has fewer commitments than the rolling average. Unlike distribution (bell) curves, this model doesn’t disproportionately weight a team’s top three or four highest rated commits and is a more accurate representation of an entire class.
