Kelly Graves and the Oregon women’s basketball program have officially found their next assistant coach.

On Tuesday, Graves announced that the Ducks have hired former University of Washington standout Tre Simmons to his staff as an assistant.

“Throughout his entire collegiate and professional career, Tre has exemplified leadership,” Graves said. “His energy and passion are contagious, and our team will love being around him. Tre has an innate ability to connect with people. That, in addition to his deep knowledge and love for the game, make him a tremendous coach and an ideal fit for our program.”

A Seattle, Wash. native, Simmons played two years for Washington and was one of the top scorers in the Pac-10 during his final season with the Huskies when he averaged 16 points and 4.8 rebounds per game on 45% shooting. During the 2004-05 season, he was a first-team all-conference selection.

Simmons began his collegiate career at Odessa College in 2001-02 before playing at Green River Community College in 2002-03. During his lone season at Green River CC, Simmons led the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges in scoring at 29.3 points per game.

After his collegiate career concluded, Simmons Simmons embarked on a 14-year professional career overseas and spent time playing in Greece, Spain, Israel, the Czech Republic, Russia, Puerto Rico, and France.

“I’m very excited and honored to get the opportunity to coach a great group of young ladies,” said Simmons. “The coaching staff has shown me nothing but gratitude and I am thrilled to join this coaching staff and program. I want to thank Coach Graves for believing in me and wanting me to be part of his team. It’s time to work!”

The addition of Simmons comes after former Oregon assistant Sadie Edwards opted to join the Baylor coaching staff earlier this month.

Last season, Oregon finished 20-15 and went 7-11 in Pac-12 play. Their season ultimately ended with a loss to Washington in the quarterfinals of the NIT.

After a flurry of key players — including all-conference guards Te-Hina Paopao and Endyia Rogers departed the program in the offseason, Graves and his staff added five transfer additions.

Former North Alabama guard Skyler Gill, former Liberty guard Kennedi Williams, former Miami (Ohio) point guard Peyton Scott, former USF guard Priscilla Williams, and former Lane CC guard Bella Hamel have all signed with the Ducks and are listed on the program’s official roster.

That group will join a nucleus of returners that includes standout sophomores Grace VanSlooten and Chance Gray.
