Oregon's 2023 recruiting class surges into top 10 following flurry of commitments
Arguably no program in the country had a bigger National Signing Day than Dan Lanning’s Oregon Ducks.
In the span of 10 minutes on Wednesday, the Ducks flipped 5-star safety Peyton Bowen and landed a commitment from 5-star EDGE Matayo Uiagelelei.
Those two commitments were bookended by flips of Baylor 4-star quarterback commit Austin Novosad and LSU defensive back commit Daylen Austin.
As of noon PT, the Ducks have signed 21 recruits from the 2023 class to National Letters of Intent and have not seen a single recruit de-commit from the program on Wednesday.
“One thing I think that we’ll spend a lot of time on is we’re never going to trick someone into coming to Oregon,” Ducks’ head coach Dan Lanning said of his staff’s recent recruiting efforts. “We want someone to pick Oregon because it’s the right fit for them in their heart; it’s the right place they can grow and they can get better.
“And same for us. I think when there’s a sales pitch that doesn’t fit, you realize that you’re going to lose people in your program. One thing that I’m proud of right now is that we don’t have a single freshman in the transfer portal right now.
“What’s that mean? It means what we said last year is reality.”
Oregon’s triumph on Signing Day comes just days after the Ducks lost their top commit, 5-star quarterback Dante Moore. On Monday, Moore flipped to UCLA and left many Oregon fans wondering if the signing class was crumbling in front of their eyes.
But Lanning and co. responded signing Novosad, the No. 10 quarterback in the country, at 5 a.m. PT to kick off a string of Signing Day victories.
As a result, the Ducks’ recruiting class has made an astronomical leap in the national team rankings.

On3 Team Rankings, powered by the On3 Consensus
The On3 Consensus is a proprietary algorithm that compiles ratings and rankings from all four major recruiting media services. Created by the authors of the Composite, the On3 Consensus is the most advanced, complete, and unbiased rating and ranking measurement in the industry.
+ The On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Ranking is the only ranking that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies: On3, 247Sports, Rivals.com and ESPN.
+ The On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Ranking is the only ranking that equally weights the four major media companies at 25%. Other industry composite ratings disproportionately weight their own rating.
+ The On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Ranking solves the problem of varying class sizes during the recruiting cycle. It compiles the highest-rated commits for each team up to a total based on a rolling average of current total commitments among Power 5 schools.
With this model, there are no bonus points for having more commitments than other teams and only small deductions occur when a team has fewer commitments than the rolling average. Unlike distribution (bell) curves, this model doesn’t disproportionately weight a team’s top three or four highest rated commits and is a more accurate representation of an entire class.
