Oregon's Bo Nix named to Manning Award watch list
The preseason accolades continue to roll in for Oregon quarterback Bo Nix.
Ahead of his fifth and final college season, Nix has been named to the Manning Award watch list, which is presented annually to the top quarterback in the country. Nix is one of 33 quarterbacks who made the cut and one of six Pac-12 signal-callers.
USC’s Caleb Williams, Washington’s Michael Penix Jr., Arizona’s Jayden de Laura, Washington State’s Cameron Ward, and Utah’s Cameron Rising also made the cut.
In 13 games last season, Nix went 294-for-409 passing (71.9%) for 3,593 yards with 29 touchdowns, and seven interceptions. He also ran for 510 yards on 89 carries (5.7 yards-per-carry) and 14 touchdowns.
Nix’s 71.9% completion percentage was the best in school history for a single season and his 3,593 passing yards were the fourth-most in school history. His 14 rushing touchdowns were the most of any FBS quarterback in the nation last season.
This season, Nix will be surrounded by a loaded group of skill position players that includes running back Bucky Irving, receiver Troy Franklin, and tight end Terrance Ferguson.

During the offseason, the Ducks bolstered Nix’s group of receivers by adding Tez Johnson (Troy), Traeshon Holden (Alabama), and Gary Bryant Jr. (USC) via the transfer portal.
At Oregon’s media day on July 31, Nix was asked if any of the Ducks’ pass-catchers are capable of producing the program’s first 1,000-yard season since 2018.
“Each guy, especially this year is going to have their own strengths,” Nix said. “So, it’s going to be situational who gets the most opportunities and who makes the most of them, and how can we get those guys the ball and make opportunities for them — get them open, throw them open, call play for them and get the ball to the hot hand. That’s a basketball saying, but it plays a lot in football, too. Some of those backs out of the backfield will have a lot of completions, too.
“I think it’s just using everybody, and one of them will probably do it.”
