Oregon's Jeffrey Bassa makes On3's Week 10 true freshman standout list
With Week 10 in the books, On3 highlighted a handful of true freshmen who stood out during the weekend.
Oregon fans will be thrilled to see that one of their own cracked the list.
Ducks’ linebacker Jeffrey Bassa was one of six first-year players On3 praised for their Week 10 contributions. Here’s the rundown:
“Facing a number of injuries at linebacker, Oregon turned to safety Jeffrey Bassa, a 6-foot-2, 217-pounder who has flourished in his new role in recent weeks. He played his best game in a 26-16 win over Washington. Bassa, from Salt Lake City Kearns, had four tackles, two assists and a sack in 50 snaps. Among Bassa’s impactful plays came when he contributed to a key fourth-down stop behind the line in the second quarter.
A big, physical safety with plus athleticism, it will be fun to see how Bassa continues to grow in the linebacker role. He was ranked as the No. 176 overall prospect in the On300 for the 2021 cycle.”

Bassa has been a revelation at weak-side linebacker for the Ducks over the past few weeks. He cracked ScoopDuck’s defensive players of the game list after the UW game, and I wrote last week about how he has settled in so seamlessly after switching positions midway through the year.
Switching positions midseason, as a true freshman no less, is not an easy thing to do. Oregon’s coaches have praised Bassa’s work ethic both on and off the field and said his commitment to film study has enabled him to thrive during his first season.
Oregon fans have known for a few weeks that Bassa is the real deal. Now, after a stellar performance in Seattle, he’s starting to register on the national radar.
