Oregon delivered one of its brightest wins of the season Friday when it topped No. 25 Arizona 4-3 at PK Park in Eugene to secure a series win.
Ducks’ starter Isaac Ayon delivered the best start of his Oregon career and tossed a complete game while striking out 10 Wildcat batters. Ayon, a sophomore right-hander, struck out the final five batters of the game.
“A lot of (Arizona’s batters) we attacked inside with my sinker,” Ayon said. “It just drops off, so it allowed us to get groundballs like we got from (Daniel Susac) when he hit into that double play. We were just attacking inside and throwing the slider off of that.”
At the plate, Oregon freshman catcher hit the first homer of his career, and Gavin Grant came through with a go-ahead RBI single in the eighth to seal the win.

“It’s awesome,” Grant said. “I thought for a second it was gonna hit (Tyler Ganus), and then once it got past the shortstop, I just started yelling. It’s just exciting to get a team win.”
