QUACK: Oregon Lands Bama WR Transfer Traeshon Holden
Dan Lanning has gone back to the transfer portal again this season. When he arrived at Oregon a year ago he was very active bringing in a number of transfers to elevate the ‘progrum.’
This time he’s back at it, luring Alabama wide receiver transfer Traeshon Holden. The 6-foot-3, 195-pounder signed with the Tide as part of its 2019 recruiting class. Holden originally played at Narbonne high school in Los Angeles.
Holden becomes the second transfer commit in the 2023 cycle for Oregon. He is currently the No. 39 ranked transfer in the On3 Transfer Portal Rankings.
Last season Holden emerged in his redshirt sophomore season. He tallied 331 receiving yards and hauled in 6 touchdowns. Holden averaged 13 yards per catch in the toughest conference in college football.
Holden was 1 of 5 transfers visiting Oregon this weekend. For the full list of names, check out our visitor list which includes 5-Star defensive lineman David Hicks and others.

Transfer portal background information
The NCAA Transfer Portal, which covers every NCAA sport at the Division I, II and III levels, is a private database with names of student-athletes who wish to transfer. It is not accessible to the public.
The process of entering the portal is done through a school’s compliance office. Once a player provides written notification of an intent to transfer, the office enters the player’s name in the database and everything is off and running. The compliance office has 48 hours to comply with the player’s request and that request cannot be refused.
Once a player’s name shows up in the portal, other schools can contact the player. Players can change their minds at any point and withdraw from the portal. However, once a player enters the portal, the current scholarship no longer has to be honored. In other words, if a player enters the portal but decides to stay, the school is not obligated to provide a scholarship anymore.
