Oregon wide receiver Traeshon Holden was arrested early Wednesday morning and is facing three charges — menacing, unlawful use of a weapon, and coercion.

Holden is currently in custody, according to records from Lane County Jail.

In a statement issued via an athletic department spokesperson, Oregon head coach Dan Lanning said Holden has been dismissed from the team.

“We are aware of the incident involving Traeshon Holden, and he has been dismissed from our team,” Lanning said. “We have high standards for the student-athletes, coaches, and staff in our football program, and we are disappointed when these standards are not met. We will continue to hold everyone in our program accountable for meeting our expectations.”

According to Eugene Police, they responded to a physical dispute at 550 Pearl St. in Eugene shortly after 12 a.m. Wednesday morning. According to EPD, Holden reportedly threatened to shoot one of two bystanders after being pepper sprayed by one of the bystanders.

Police say that when they entered the building, Holden was walking down the apartment stairs. Police say Holden was compliant and followed officers’ commands as they arrested him, and that they transported him to Lane County Jail after locating a handgun within his apartment.

Holden, a junior who spent his first two collegiate seasons at Alabama, committed to transfer to Oregon on Dec. 11, 2022, and was projected to compete for a starting spot with the Ducks.

On Friday, KEZI reported that the Lane County District Attorney’s office will not file charges against Holden after it reviewed body camera footage and video surveillance and interviewed additional witnesses.

“Traeshon Holden did nothing wrong,” Holden’s attorney, Jacob Houze, said in a statement to KEZI. “The Lane County District Attorney’s thorough review of the evidence has confirmed that. Now that he has been exonerated, he deserves to have his good name back.”

Late Wednesday evening, following Holden’s arrest, he was released from custody and all three charges were listed as “cleared” in his Lane County Jail booking detail.

It is unclear at this point if the Lane County D.A.’s decision will have any effect on Holden’s status with the Oregon football program.

A fourth-year junior who committed to transfer to Oregon from Alabama on Dec. 11, Holden was expected to compete for a starting job with the Ducks. As a redshirt sophomore last season, Holden caught 25 passes for 331 receiving yards and six touchdowns.

Shortly after KEZI’s story broke on Friday, Holden Tweeted “thankful that the truth is out.”
