Redshirt Roundup: Solomon Davis

by:Linden Hile06/18/24

As part of a new series on some potentially under-the-radar redshirt freshmen for Oregon Football, I’ll be taking a look at cornerback Solomon Davis today to see where he fits into the Ducks’ 2024 outlook and beyond.

Davis came to Oregon via Charter Oak High School in Rancho Cucamonga (CA) where he was a three-star prospect rated as the No. 26 Athlete in the 2023 recruiting cycle.

Standing 6-0 and weighing in at 180 pounds per his last official weigh-in, Davis has the frame to play cornerback at an elite level. He’s likely closer to 190 pounds now with a full year in Oregon’s strength and conditioning program under his belt and figures to be better able to stand up to on-field competition.

Davis did not record any appearances in the 2023 season as Oregon had something of a backlog of secondary depth that kept most younger players out of the rotation.

Entering 2024, Davis does not project as a consistent rotation player, although he could make a few showings late in some of Oregon’s easier wins of the season. One possible out to playing time for Davis is in his positional versatility, evidenced by his Athlete status during his recruitment.

If Davis has indeed added weight since his recruitment, there’s a chance he could rotate in at safety for the Ducks who lack a surefire high-end safety for the 2024 season.

Davis did not come to Oregon with a surplus of hype but you never know which players will make an impression if given the chance to shine. In a conference as physical as the Big Ten, it’s entirely possible injuries will force the Ducks to field some players they didn’t necessarily plan on, and Davis could be firmly in this mix.
