As we wrote on Monday, Oregon might only have a few true needs on this very deep roster. It would appear however there is one name that fits the bill.

Texas A&M safety Jacoby Matthews is an immediate name Duck fans should watch. The 6-foot-2, 215-pounder was the No. 32 ranked player in the 2022 class. He was the No. 2 overall safety in the country.

Oregon is an immediate name for the Junior as a landing spot. Sam Spiegelman (formerly w/On3) was first to report the news. Sources have confirmed the Ducks are a major player here for his services.

Matthews confirms with On3’s Steve Wiltfong, Oregon and FSU are his two early favorites.

The Ducks brought in Kansas State safety Kobe Savage and retained last years transfer Tysheem Johnson this offseason. Oregon still has a need at the position group however given the lack of depth among other things. Oregon also signed Duke transfer Brandon Johnson who is being brought in as a nickel/STAR in the defense.

Matthews tallied 42 tackles, 1 interception and 4 pass break ups for the Aggies last season.

Expect Matthews to be one of the most coveted players in the Spring transfer portal window.
