REPORT: Oregon and Dan Lanning Agree to Six-Year Contact Extension

Oregon and head coach Dan Lanning have agreed to a six-year contract extension that will keep him in Eugene through the 2030 season, according to a report from Ross Dellenger of Yahoo! Sports. The contract will increase Lanning’s annual pay by $2 million.
Dellenger goes on to report that the deal, which is fully-guaranteed, averages $11 million annually. That number pushes Lanning into the top-five highes paid head coaches in the sport. His buyout of $20 million remains the same as his previous contract according to Dellenger.
The contract extension still needs board approval, which could happen as soon as Friday.
Since being hired by Athletic Director Rob Mullens in December of 2021, Lanning has led Oregon to a 35-6 overall record. In that same span the Ducks won the Big Ten Championship in 2024, going 13-1 in their first season in the new conference.
They were the No. 1 overall seed in the College Football Playoff and finished the regular season with a perfect 12-0 record, something that hadn’t been done in Eugene since 2010 under former head coach Chip Kelly.
Under Lanning the Ducks have also set a number of program records including their NFL production. They set that record with eight total players being selected in the 2024 NFL Draft. In 2025 they could very well break that record, as they sent a program-best 12 players to last week’s NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis. Players like Derrick Harmon, Josh Conerly Jr. and Jordan Burch are drawing the most praise after successful showings inside Lucas Oil Stadium.

Lanning has also proven to be worth the investment for Oregon on the recruiting trail. In his three full recruiting cycles, the Ducks have signed three top-ten high school recruiting classes. The Ducks signed the No. 7 class nationally in 2023, the No. 3 class in 2024 and No. 4 class in 2025.
Oregon has also been dominant in the transfer portal under Lanning, landing commitments from players like quarterbacks Bo Nix and Dillon Gabriel, two Heisman Trophy finalists, as well as quarterback Dante Moore and wide receivers Tez Johnson and Evan Stewart.
The future remains bright in Eugene with Lanning at the helm and Oregon is poised for another strong season in 2025.
