According to a report, Oregon’s potential move to the Big Ten could be picking up steam.

Brett McMurphy of Action Network reported on Monday that UO has “initiated preliminary discussions with the Big Ten in Chicago to determine if the Ducks are compatible in the conference.”

Additionally, McMurphy reported that UO athletic director Rob Mullens and outgoing president Michael Schill were not involved in the discussions.

Schill has departed to become the president at Northwestern.

McMurphy’s report comes less than a week after the Big Ten inked a groundbreaking media deal that is estimated to be worth more than $7 billion. After that deal was announced, Action Network reported that the Big Ten is “not done expanding.”

The Pac-12’s current media rights deal is set to expire in August of 2024.
