Oregon star Bennett Williams has suffered a broken fibula and could miss the remainder of the 2021 season, according to a report from Tyson Alger of The I-5 Corridor.
Per the report, the non-contact injury occurred during an onside kick drill at practice.
Williams was in the midst of a breakout season for the Ducks. In four games this season, the junior safety racked up 20 tackles and grabbed three interceptions. After his standout Week 4 showing against Arizona, Williams was named the national defensive player of the week.
With Williams out, Jamal Hill will likely see a sharp increase in playing time at Oregon’s STAR position. Jordan Happle and Jeffrey Bassa are also candidates to play there — although Bassa has recently spent time at weak-side linebacker to help cover up the litany of injuries there.
