Report: Oregon Targeting Tosh Lupoi
Monday morning a familiar name started buzzing among the Oregon fanbase.
New Oregon head coach Dan Lanning has his work cut out for him. He’s under the gun and fans are ready to see the hires he makes in his first head coaching position.
From Brandon Marcello at 247Sports, Oregon is potentially targeting Jacksonville Jaguars defensive line coach Tosh Lupoi. After the 2018 season, Lupoi left Alabama to head into the NFL. He has been with the Browns, Falcons and now the Jaguars.
Lupoi would have West coast ties should he join Lanning at Oregon. He spent time at Cal and Washington spanning from 2008-2013.
At the moment this remains an isolated report but is worth monitoring.
Jhop’s Thoughts:
Lupoi is what Oregon needs. And I don’t mean Tosh Lupoi specifically. The Ducks have had an enigma at defensive line recruiting the past few cycles. There have been some good players that have come to Oregon, including Kayvon Thibodeaux and Brandon Dorlus among others.
However the Ducks haven’t been able to keep a lot of that top West coast talent close to home and has been a subject of debate.

Lupoi has had a mixed career but few question his ability to recruit. With Lincoln Riley now at USC, Oregon will look to counter with a strong recruiting staff of its own.
The current trend is seeing college coaches head to the NFL due to demands and expectations. This move would make sense however given the relationship between Lanning and Lupoi combined with the very public issues going on in Jacksonville.
Sources tell me this story has legs to it, but is far from a done deal. I’m told Lanning has put out a lot of feelers among the college and NFL ranks. It will be interesting to see how this all comes together with the early signing period looming.
