ScoopDuck Roundtable: Big Ten Championship Score Predictions
I know it’s not our usual Wednesday post this week. But I figured this would get lost in the National Signing day shuffle. So here it is today, our score predictions for Oregon vs Penn State in the Big Ten championship on Saturday.
It’s only a couple days out, so let’s get right into it.
Collin King: Oregon 34 – 23
Penn State’s defense is one of the better units the Ducks have faced this season, but there are injuries at a few key spots right now and the status of those players is unknown for next week. I think Oregon is able to break away in the second half and claim the No. 1 overall seed for the College Football Playoff. I’m incredibly nervous for this game however, and this one will depend on how Oregon plays in the trenches.
Max Torres: Oregon 35 – 21
Oregon continues to play really strong football and their win against Washington proved that the close game against Wisconsin was more of a one-off for a team that played eight straight games than anything else.
They are still relatively rested after their bye week and the potential return of Marcus Harper would make the offense even more dangerous. Penn State has plenty of good players that should help them stay in this game, but I don’t see this one being particularly close because they’ve only played two good teams in Ohio State and Illinois and were subpar against USC and UCLA. Oregon has been battle-tested and should win the battle at the line of scrimmage.

Linden Hile: Oregon 24 – 23
I think this’ll be a slugfest in the truest sense of the word. Both teams field excellent defenses, averaging under 17 points allowed per game and while I don’t expect that exact statistic to hold, it should be a lower-scoring contest than Oregon fans have grown accustomed to this season.
98% of spread bets being on Oregon -3.5 suggests a mildly less competitive game than I’m predicting but both teams have played strong schedules and the Nittany Lions are one of few one-loss teams remaining in the country. I’ll take the Ducks in a heater.
Jhop: Oregon 37 – 24
I’m having a real tough time seeing this as a good matchup for Penn State. They are good, they are tough, they have some talent. But when I look at this game I see a lot of bad matchups for Penn State. Understanding they played Ohio State in a close one, I think Oregon is playing better football than the Buckeyes. I think the Ducks get ahead early in this one and makes life really tough for Penn State who is not built to come from behind.
