ScoopDuck Roundtable: Breakout Player of the Game vs MSU
It’s Tuesday so we move on to the second roundtable of the week. Oregon has a lot of depth and talent on this roster. Each week there is potential for a new breakout candidate to have an impact on the game.
So we predict who that might be. Dillon Gabriel seems like an obvious choice, Tez Johnson, Jordan James. So most times we are trying to find a new name ready to impact the game.
Here are this weeks predictions vs Michigan State.
Max Torres: JaMaree Caldwell
Caldwell has been flashing at times over the last few weeks and I think he’s in for a big game. Maybe he’s not stuffing the stat sheet but he’s played a big role in helping the Ducks stop the run against Oregon State and UCLA. There was a play on Saturday where he slammed into Ethan Garbers to force an incompletion and I just feel like he’s been building up through this first month of action. Teams are going to have their hands full with Derrick Harmon and Jordan Burch on Oregon’s front, which could free up Caldwell to cause some more chaos.
Collin King: Brandon Johnson
Really unsure of which direction to go here so I think I’ll go with Brandon Johnson, who has been pretty quiet the last two weeks. Johnson certainly has already shined but with a big matchup against some pretty good receiver talent, I’d like to see him shine even more. The Duke transfer is certainly capable of being a near lockdown player and was excellent in the first two games of the season.

Linden Hile: Jabbar Muhammad
It might be a bit of a cop out to name an already great player as a breakout candidate but it feels like we haven’t seen Muhammad have his signature play at Oregon yet. Given his obvious talent and experience I think his time will come sooner rather than later.
I think there’s a good chance he could have his first interception of the year against a Michigan State team and passing attack that have been prone to turnovers so far this season. If this happens, Muhammad and Oregon’s secondary will carry a lot of momentum into next week’s matchup with Ohio State’s elite receivers.
Jhop: Evan Stewart
It’s time. We all want to see it. We see him open. We see the talent. At some point Dillon Gabriel and Will Stein have got to start calling his number. And this would be a real nice time to do it. Not because Oregon needs him to beat Michigan State, but that added dimension would be welcome headed into the Ohio State game. I’m hoping to see his best game as a Duck this weekend. Then followed up by another big one in two weeks against Ohio State.
