Welcome to roundtable No. 2 for the week from the ScoopDuck crew. In this one we talk about which players from the opposing team Oregon will need to be aware of. We know the staff will watch film and identify the strengths and weaknesses of this team.

But we offer up our junior varsity opinions on who this staff will be keeping tabs on in this one.

Max Torres: TE Tyler Warren

Warren is one of the best tight ends in college football and has been an absolute handful for opposing defenses this year. If you’ve never heard of him just look up what he did against USC this year—a one-man wrecking crew. Oregon was able to limit Colston Loveland to 7 catches for 112 yards in early November, so they have a foundation for defending talented tight ends.

Collin King: EDGE Abdul Carter

If not Tyler Warren, Abdul Carter is the guy that scares me the most. The defensive end is a force to be reckoned with and is a surefire first round pick in this year’s NFL Draft. His impact goes beyond just getting sacks, with his high pressure rate and being a good run defender. Oregon’s offensive line has handled some of the best in the country, but this is a different beast.

Linden Hile: TE Tyler Warren

The Ducks gave up 112 receiving yards to Colston Loveland against Michigan and while Warren isn’t quite the same player as Loveland, it suggests an area Penn State may be able to exploit. Warren leads the team in receiving yards by nearly 400 as well as having more than twice as many receptions as the team’s next leader.

Oregon’s linebackers have been phenomenal in run support this year but this is a spot where they’ll be tasked with a difficult job in coverage along with the safeties.

Jhop: RB Nick Singleton

Everyone is well aware of how good Abdul Carter and Tyler Warren are for Penn State. Drew Allar can throw the ball but the problem is his best pass-catching option is Warren by a significant margin. I think Oregon will key on those two players and I think the way Penn State stays in this game is with a run game. Which hasn’t been their strength but if I was James Franklin I’d try and establish the run. If Singleton gets going, that’s how Penn State stays in the game.
