Congrats everyone, we did it. We finally did it. The season is back and that means we begin our weekly game coverage roundtables. Up first, on Monday’s will be our picks for opposing players to watch.

Now of course with Portland State, it’s a tough one to start out with. We all know Oregon should win this in blowout fashion. But even then, let’s roll right into some roundtable discussions that we’ll be doing every week for the next few months.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL SATURDAY’S ARE BACK!!!!!

Jarrid Denney:

Maclaine Griffin

Over the years, Portland State has produced its fair share of standout pass-catchers.

Maclaine Griffin, a 6-foot-2 senior who began his career at Boise State, could be the next player to fit that description. Although he caught just 14 passes for 175 yards and three touchdowns last season, he will likely take on a greater role this season as last year’s leading receiver, Beau Kelly, has graduated.

In Griffin and junior quarterback Dante Chachere, Portland State has a very good quarterback-receiver duo that could prove difficult for Big Sky opponents to stop this season.

Doug Scott

Dante Chachere

Dante Chachere is a dual threat QB who is more dangerous as a runner than a passer, putting up 26 total TDs in 2022. His ability to challenge with his feet will give the Ducks a good chance to test their rush lane and zone read discipline.

Joel Gunderson

Dino Kahaulelio

Perhaps the most challenging article to write for the whole season considering the opposition (shout out to my alma mater), but anytime you face an opponent from a lower division looking to shock the world, the number one concern is avoiding injuries.

Specifically, avoiding injuries to your quarterback.

Bo Nix shouldn’t play more than two quarters against Portland State, but even in that time, watch for Vikings’ sophomore defensive tackle Dino Kahaulelio, a 285-pounder who could pose some problems for Oregon’s offensive line, which is long on talent but must continue to gel. Keep Nix upright, and prepare for Texas Tech.

Andrew Van Buren

If anyone is going to find success for PSU Saturday I’m going with its experienced running back. Van Buren only played four games last year before a knee injury shut him down. He comes to PSU via Boise State where he left with over 1,000 yards and 21 touchdowns.

Nobody had mentioned him yet so I figured why not.
