ScoopDuck Roundtable: Score Predictions vs PSU

We are just a few days out from Oregon’s first game of the season. And while it certainly appears to be a tune-up game, it’s still a game and football is back.
As we continue with our weekly gameday roundtables, Wednesday’s will be score prediction day. So with that let’s get right into the scores.
Corpatty: Oregon 56, PSU 10
This one won’t be close from the start. Oregon jumps out quick and gets a big lead on several explosive plays. In the second half Lanning rests his starters and takes his foot off the gas, which is the only reason Oregon doesn’t score 70+ in this game.
Joel Gunderson: Oregon 63, PSU 7
As much as Oregon’s 63 will lead the score ticker Saturday night, the seven next to Portland State is the real story. In years past, the Ducks are notorious for giving up late scores in blowouts; because of last year’s struggles, plus Dan Lanning’s passion for the defensive side of the ball, I don’t see that happening this week.
This is the deepest Oregon’s defense has ever been along the line, and the secondary as well is brimming with young talent. By the time the freshmen take the field in the third quarter, they’ll be ready to make a statement.

Doug Scott: Oregon 62, PSU 16
Oregon gets on the board early and often in this one, and the defense adds a 1st half takeaway and several 3 and out to lead the Ducks to a 35-3 lead at the half. The bench clears in the second half as Oregon adds 3 more TDs and a pair of FGs while also giving up a few meaningless scores.
Jarrid Denney: Oregon 63, Portland State 7
This one is going to go about as expected.
Oregon will be focused on making a statement in its season opener and will come out firing on both offense and defense. Look for Bo Nix to spread the ball around early and get the program’s new receivers involved. The second half should provide an opportunity for the Ducks’ freshman defenders to notch their first college snaps.
Jhop: Oregon 70, PSU 10
Nobody went into the 70’s so I figured I might as well. Which will only be hard to do for two reasons. The new clock in college football and Oregon sitting its starters early. I think they might get a bit more run than we expect because they need the practice and quite frankly, if Bo is going to be serious about his Heisman run, he needs stats.
Oregon wins big and we all celebrate the day over cold ones.
