It’s Wednesday which means we are on the ‘hump day’ part of the week headed to the weekend. And this Saturday features a very exciting matchup with Oregon and Texas Tech. One Duck fans are buzzing about as well as national media.
This will be Oregon’s first road test and a chance for us to see how Oregon handles being the visitor.
To the surprise of many, Tech dropped their season opener to Wyoming. Which has many wondering if maybe this Texas Tech team was slightly overhyped. I guess we’ll find out on Saturday with the Ducks coming to town.
Corpatty: Head 41-38 Oregon, Heart 45-21 Oregon
Look my head tells me that Texas Tech is a vastly better team at home than they are on the road and this will be a tough, close game. Texas Tech lost only one game at home last season and averaged 42 points a game at home. Tyler Shough is very experienced and has a lot of weapons at his disposal. Even given all that, I think Oregon is simply too much for Texas Tech barring something strange happening.
On the other hand my heart tells me that this Oregon team is special. The offense is extremely efficient with many ways to beat you and is virtually unstoppable. And my heart tells me that this defense has significantly improved over last season. All of which would add up to an easy Oregon victory.

I know I am way off from what Vegas thinks of this game but I don’t see it. I think Oregon could start a bit slow here and need to settle in to a hostile crowd. But I still think they’ll have plenty of time to turn it on even if they do. I’ve got Oregon going big with Bo Nix this week and really ‘cutting him loose.’ I think the defense will pin their ears back and make Tyler Shough very uncomfortable.

Maybe Vegas knows something that we don’t, but I really don’t understand how Oregon is only a one-score favorite for this one.
Texas Tech showed some major vulnerabilities on both sides of the ball in its Week 1 loss to Wyoming. It’s going to be missing a pair of key linebackers, and it’s a much less talented team than Oregon overall. Yes, there will be a home-field advantage. But I think the Ducks win this one comfortably.

As I outlined in my surprise storyline, this is the week Oregon looks to make a statement. Texas Tech’s loss at Wyoming removes some of the luster off this game, but it shouldn’t take anything away from an Oregon victory. Lubbock is still a tough place to play, and the Red Raiders will undoubtedly come out with their hair on fire.
But after this past Saturday, I don’t think it will matter.
What we saw from Oregon, albeit against an FCS program, was as close to a complete team as we’ve seen since 2012. The offense might be better than last season, and the defense appears to be much better equipped for the long haul. Add in the presumed returns of players such as Mase Funa, Jestin Jacobs, Evan Williams, etc., and Dan Lanning’s vision on that side of the ball is starting to fruition.
