Roundtable No. 2 for the week and we talk about the next game on the schedule. Penn State will host SMU at 9 AM Saturday to get your day started. This of course is the first game after Notre Dame hosts Indiana Friday night.

This could be an interesting game. Penn State played Oregon tough in the Big Ten conference game. SMU is an 8.5 dog in this one. Could it end up being closer than expected?

Here are our thoughts on the game.

Collin King: Penn State 35-16

Incredibly happy to SMU as they were a top team in the ACC in their first year in the conference. Unfortunately at Penn State in likely extremely cold weather is going to be a major challenge for them. I trust Penn State’s defense to get it done in the game, moving on to face Boise State.

Max Torres: Penn State 35-28

Penn State may have lost the Big Ten Championship, but they proved to themselves that they can hang with any team in the country. Penn State’s combination of Kaytron Allen and Nicholas Singleton is as good as any running back tandem in the country. Tyler Warren should give SMU some trouble. I think SMU sticks around this game and surprises some folks but the Nittany Lions and their fanbase will be juiced at home.

Linden Hile: Penn State 34-24

I don’t know if you could draw up two more similar games than this and the Indiana-Notre Dame matchup. Both feature a feel-good team that’s overcome preseason expectations against a historic power that has all the on-paper advantages.

I don’t expect quarterback Beau Pribula’s transfer news to impact Penn State now that Drew Allar has announced his return for next year and with their most recent game being a loss, I think the Nittany Lions come out hot and bury SMU.

Jhop: Penn State 37-24

I just think if we see the version of Penn State that showed up in the Big Ten championship they roll. Now that said, that was one of the best versions of Penn State we’ve seen all year. I hope they can duplicate it but they also did a ton of things against Oregon that broke tendencies. SMU probably has a better shot than many think but they will have to play perfect football and Penn State can still win with mistakes because of the talent gap.
