ScoopDuck Roundtable: Tennessee at Ohio State
The most exciting game of the weekend in my mind is finally one we have some split picks on. The roundtables have been pretty boring all week with everyone picking the same school.
Well not today my friends. The best first round matchup kicks off Saturday morning. So get ready to watch this one at 9 AM PST.
This one is especially important because as we know, Oregon faces the winner. Will it be Ohio State or Tennessee?
Let’s get on with the picks.
Collin King: Ohio State 45-30
Perhaps the hardest pick of them all this week, a very average Tennessee team (not on paper), and big game Ryan Day. The home field advantage and anger from the loss against Michigan will likely prevail here. I just don’t see Nico doing enough to beat the Ohio State defense. One thing I’ll be watching is how James Pearce Jr and the rest of the Tennessee DL performs against a short-handed Ohio State OL. Will be rooting for Tennessee in this one fwiw.
Max Torres: Tennessee 24-21
If you asked me to predict this game at the start of the year I’d go with Ohio State. But given how the regular season ended in Columbus, the Buckeyes appear vulnerable. I’m a fan of Nico and what Josh Heupel is building in Knoxville with guys like SEC Offensive Player of the Year Dylan Sampson. Their defense could be in for a big day with how banged up Ohio State’s offensive line is. Ryan Day may be coaching for his job. So while it won’t be easy, give me the Vols to come out of Columbus with a win.

Linden Hile: Ohio State 31-20
This game feels like it should be closer than it probably will be. Ohio State leads Tennessee in essentially every statistical category and might have the better defense to boot.
It’s the only matchup where I question one team’s motivation (you can guess) but as long as the Buckeyes come to play, they should get this done.
Jhop: Tennessee 30-21
The only reason this game is this close is because of the snow/weather. If it was a clear field this one could get real ugly, real quick for Ohio State. They aren’t physical at the LOS and Tennessee can exploit that. However this will slow down the Vols tempo attack which is the only reason they only score 30 and not more.
