Six Must Watch Games in College Football
I don’t know about you guys, but I plan on spending a lot of time on the couch Saturday watching college football. No Ducks, no problem.
It’s going to be a very key weekend for many teams around the country. It’s kind of a ‘put up or shut up’ week for some of the top teams in college football. Including one of Oregon’s rivals to the South, USC.
But who are we watching and why? Here are my top six games from the weekend with predictions. Unfortunately there doesn’t appear to be much “Pac-12 after dark’ on the schedule.
Illinois @ Nebraska
(Friday) – 5:00 FOX
This is a nice little Friday night game to enjoy at home, at the bar, wherever. Nebraska pounded Colorado but Illinois is a much better football team. I’m mostly anxious to see how good Illinois is here and how concerned Oregon needs to be.
I think Illinois pulls off the upset in Lincoln, 31-28.
USC @ Michigan
12:30 CBS
This is a season-defining game for each program. USC has a strong win under its belt vs LSU but there are a lot of folks (including myself) not buying this LSU team. I’m also not buying Michigan either. They aren’t strong on offense and I think USC’s defense is just good enough to handle it. I’ve changed my (original) mind on this one and I think USC wins. But it’s closer because it’s in Ann Arbor. 40-34 Trojans.

UCLA @ LSU
12:30 ABC
A season-defining game for each of these programs as well. There is no world this game should be close. LSU at home should be able to pound UCLA. The Bruins are not a good football team. But with UCLA being Oregon’s next game I’ll be interested to see this one play out. Give me LSU by 20, 38-18.
Utah @ Oklahoma State
1:00 FOX
I saw a stat that said the combined age of these two starting quarterbacks was 49 I think it was. That’s absolutely nuts. Cam Rising should return and I think the Utes will be back on track. But this one will be close because it’s in Stillwater. I think it will be a fun one but the Utes run the game out. 34-24 Utes.
Cal @ FSU
4:00 ESPN2
Who’d have thought right? Suddenly Cal doesn’t completely suck and FSU does. Can the Noles finally get their first win of the season? They should have been favored by 16 in this game but they are only 2.5 point favorites. I’ve got Cal winning and I’m here for the memes when it happens. 24-14 Bears.
Tennessee @ Oklahoma
4:30 ABC
The game of the weekend. The irony is, I kind of have my doubts about both teams. I think they are both top 15 level teams but are they top 10? Tennessee is rolling on offense and Nico looks great. But they definitely haven’t played anyone. (Chattanooga, NC State, Kent State) Oklahoma almost has to win here. The Sooners next four games in order: Auburn, Texas, South Carolina, Ole Miss. Ouch. Vols win a close one, 41-37.
