Top Three Trap Games for Oregon

In the last couple of weeks we’ve taken a few peaks at the Oregon schedule. And once again don’t forget, this is the last month you won’t have college football.
Oregon has a generous schedule I suppose you could say. There are some tough games, some ‘layups’ and all those in between. The ones in between you really have to watch for however. Those are the ones that sneak up on you.
What exactly is a trap game? Obviously it’s not Washington or USC, you go into those games with all of your attention on that opponent. It’s generally that game wedged in between some tougher games that maybe doesn’t get your full attention. And when you’re Oregon, you get everyone’s best shot each and every week.
So here are my top three potential trap games on the schedule for the Ducks. Keep in mind, this was no easy task as Oregon has several games that really fits this criteria.

3. Cal – Nov. 4 (Home)
Let’s be honest, Cal is not a good football team. They have seemingly gotten worse each season and have added less talent to the roster. But this game is wedged between two massive games for Oregon. Right after Utah and just before USC. The absolute definition of a trap game in my mind. Easy to overlook it as Cal has been bad and Oregon will be heavily favored. And there will be tons of hype early for that USC game the next week. Vintage trap game here.
2. Stanford – Sept. 30 (Away)
Now hear me out here. I had a really tough time picking these three. But after careful thought, I went with Stanford. Here’s why. It’s a road game. New head coach that would love, LOVE to make any sort of a ‘statement win’ to help boost morale for the season. Additionally this is Oregon’s first conference road game and comes right after Colorado, which I assume will be a bloodbath. Hopefully Oregon doesn’t roll into Palo Alto a little too cocky and get caught. Fortunately, Oregon has a bye before facing Washington after this one.
1. ASU – Nov. 18 (Away)
I understand folks will take this one a bit more seriously because they know Dilly is down there. But that also adds to the drama. While it isn’t the textbook version of trap game, it’s still very much a trap. Oregon should be heavily favored but we all know how much trouble the desert gives the Ducks. And if that wasn’t enough, you might have some ‘big game hangover’ from the USC game the week prior. Dangerous game for Oregon here.
