Tosh Lupoi: "I've been impressed with the attention to detail."

Oregon DC/CO-DC Tosh Lupoi met with media Tuesday following Spring practice. We have not heard from coach Lupoi so far through Spring football so getting his take on the defense was key.
Lupoi is one of the original staff members when Lanning was hired at Oregon. He’s been here since the beginning watching the transformation in the defense and the talent. He was asked about the potential number of picks in the NFL draft and that accomplishment.
You can read most of his top comments below or watch the full interview included at the bottom.

On Defense’s Progress:
“I’ve been impressed with the attention to detail. I think it goes back to our evaluation process. Recruiting and signing as many like-minded guys helps. I think what reflects our defense now, we have an inexperienced group that’s really dangerous. I think we’re taking steps towards that direction.”
On Defensive Growth:
“We’re going to continue to recruit the best of the best. It starts in high school. If there’s a necessity we’ll consider the portal. I’ve seen a group too, there’s quite a few guys with hunger.”

On ILB Group:
“I love what I’m seeing out of that group. The first practice we had shoulder pads, they weren’t told to be tackling, but they were tackling and we needed to hold them back. This is a hungry group. I love going into that room and you look left and right and you see some hungry guys.”
On Post-Spring Work:
“We’re gonna continue to establish patterns of detail and discipline. When we go out recruiting, ball doesn’t stop there. Within the body of the rules we’re challenging the guys to continue to progress. The guys that have played for us, we’re expecting them to get to the next level.”
On NFL Draft:
“It embodies this program and the growth mindset. We landed here in January, we signed 99% of our class in December. WE had to try to plug and play with portal guys. That first year we only had 1 guy drafted. That first full season we had 6 guys drafted, the next we had 8, breaking the record and now we’re looking at maybe 12 guys drafted.”
