Tosh Lupoi Talks About the Oregon Defense
On Tuesday Oregon Co-DC Tosh Lupoi met with media following the morning practice. The Ducks are inching closer to the start of the college football season and fans are wanting the latest on the team.
Below you can read some of his top quotes or watch the entire video at the bottom.
On Red Zone and 3rd Down Defense:
“We want to continue to strengthen that, no doubt. Apply a bunch of the professional development we’ve had this offseason. Strengthen the the things that we’ve been good at. Find those answers and apply them.”
On Defense Overall:
“We’ve got a lot of work ahead of us. These guys are attacking the ball really well. We’re starting to establish some specific packages. Situational awareness. We’re growing, we’ve got a long ways to go.”
On Transfers Integrating:
“If you are part of this program, it’s going to be really difficult not to be connected. Or you’re probably going to leave. We’re trying to do that the day the guys get here. We believe that is showing out on the field.”
Bringing Transfers Up to Speed:
“As long as were on the daily course of improvement. Of course if you’ve been here 2 or 3 seasons, you’re going to be more comfortable executing your assignment. That’s the goal, bringing the chaos to clarity. Our staff will consistently jump on a zoom. Whatever we need to do.”

Incorporating Dime Packages:
“As we establish more depth that we feel more comfortable with we’ll incorporate more packages. How can we do the best possible job as a staff to get guys on the field. Highlight certain skillsets.”
On Kam Alexander:
“He’s battled back from some things out of his control. Good to see him restore health and get him out there. Haven’t gotten as much of a look at him as others so far.”
Jhop’s Take:
I wasn’t expecting coach Lupoi to give anyway any secrets ahead of the start of the season. One of the comments he did make which I love is the fact he gave Will Stein a shout out. Coach Stein brings a very multiple-looking offense which will give the defense a lot to prepare for. This is a huge help for this defense which will face some very diverse offenses this season.
Most of the questions were talking about cornerbacks. There were questions about Kam Alexander, Sione Laulea and Rodrick Pleasant. We didn’t really gather much from the answers other than maybe Kam Alexander is going to need a little more time to get caught up with the rest of the team that has been around longer. It also sounded like he might have came in with some nagging injuries that have slowed his progress. Which is okay. It’s a long season so maybe he can use September to catch up and be ready to help this team through the meat of the schedule.
