With a new head coach, an entirely new offensive staff, and an ongoing quarterback battle that will lead to a new Week 1 starter, it’s no secret that Oregon’s offense is going to look very, very different next season.

The Ducks’ offensive line will be no exception.

Over the past few years, former Oregon OL coach Alex Mirabal developed a reputation for frequently chopping and changing his offensive line rotations. Players were cross-trained to play multiple positions, and a handful of Ducks were capable of popping up at any of the five spots up front.

Don’t expect that to be the case under Adrian Klemm.

Klemm, Oregon’s first-year offensive line coach and run game coordinator met with reporters Thursday for the first time since joining the program and provided some details on what he expects from his players.

Specifically, he was asked if frequently rotating linemen is part of his philosophy.

“I wouldn’t say anything’s wrong with that, but that’s not what I like to do,” Klemm said. “My preference is to develop some form of continuity among the group. I think it’s better that way. If guys can play together, they get a better feel for one another. When the running back is in the backfield, if he’s following the same guys on combinations throughout the week, he knows how to set that up.”

Klemm reiterated that he wants a degree of certainty and familiarity among his players, but also does want his linemen to be versatile.

“If you have guys coming in and out, there’s a lot of uncertainty for other positions and then there’s a lack of continuity within the group. But you need to have position flexibility.”

Throughout his press conference, Klemm also discussed Oregon’s five returning starters and what it his been like working with such an experienced group this spring.
