Oregon running backs coach Carlos Locklyn has one of the more fascinating stories in all of college football.

Locklyn has developed a reputation as a coach who cares deeply about his players, and one who wants to do whatever he can to help them succeed — both on and off the field. He is fondly referred to as “the walk-on coach” and on Tuesday, he talked in-depth about his journey to Oregon and the devotion and commitment it took to get his career off the ground.

A former correctional officer and a police officer who has also done special detail work for the government, Locklyn had to grind his way through the coaching ranks in order to reach this point in his career.

“We all should be in this business to serve these young men, and that’s what I’m here for,” Locklyn said.

Speaking with reporters for the first time since joining Dan Lanning’s Oregon staff, Locklyn also delivered his thoughts on Oregon’s running backs, and how he has watched them progress this spring.
