Drew Mehringer isn’t shy about his expectations for Oregon’s tight ends.

“The one thing that I have conveyed is I want to be the best unit on the team,” Mehringer said while meeting with reporters on Thursday. “Regardless, just out of competitive nature.”

He doubled down on that assertion later in his interview when he was asked what he wants Oregon’s tight end room to be known for.

“I want us to be the best unit in the country,” Mehringer said. “If we’re not trying to do that, what are we doing?”

With a group that features Terrance Ferguson, Moliki Matavao, Spencer Webb, Patrick Herbert, and Cam McCormick, Mehringer certainly has no shortage of talent to work with.

At just 34 years of age, Mehringer already has eight years of experience as a position coach under his belt and served as an SA and GA for six years prior to that. His career has included stops at Texas, Rutgers, and New Mexico, to name a few, and Mehringer has developed a reputation as an elite recruiter.

Now, at Oregon, he will aim to bring the best out of a group of Duck tight ends that is brimming with talent.

Throughout his Thursday interview, Mehringer discussed his journey to Oregon, why Eugene felt like a good fit for him and his family and specific details regarding a few key players.
