What could the Oregon men's basketball roster look like next season?
Oregon just concluded the most underwhelming season of the Dana Altman era.
The Ducks assembled a promising collection of talent last offseason, but it never quite all clicked in Eugene this year. The final product was a sixth-place finish in the Pac-12 — the worst result by an Oregon team since 2017-18, and the third-worst of Altman’s 12-season tenure in Eugene
So, now what?
The Ducks could potentially return a large portion of this year’s roster, and also have added a group of high-caliber, intriguing newcomers. With four commits set to come in next season, and nine players eligible to return who have not declared their intention to leave the program, Oregon is currently at the 13-player scholarship max.
Here is a breakdown of what the Ducks’ roster might look like in 2022-23, and the pieces of the program that are still potentially in flux.
The departures
Thus far, only three of Oregon’s scholarship players from the 2021-22 season are known to be moving on for certain.
- Isaac Johnson has entered the transfer portal.
- Eric Williams Jr. is turning pro and will not return for a sixth season.
- Jacob Young has exhasuted his eligibility.
Another (potential) departure
Oregon star guard Will Richardson is the only other Duck who is known to be weighing his pro prospects. Like Williams Jr., he is also eligible to return for a bonus year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Richardson led the Ducks with 14.1 points per game and was a second-team all-conference selection. He missed the final six games of the year, and Altman revealed after last weekend’s season-ending loss that Richardson was suffering from mononucleosis during that time.
Richardson will have the opportunity to run it back in Eugene for one final season if he so chooses. We will likely find out his decision in the coming weeks. His NBA Draft stock has fluctuated over the past 12 months, and at the moment, he is not listed in any notable mock drafts or big boards.

“I want Will to be happy,” Altman said Saturday. “If Will wants to come back, great. If he wants to go try to make it in the pros, great. If he wants to go somewhere else, great. I want Will to be happy, just like I do all our players.”
The returners
This list is always subject to change, of course. It wouldn’t be shocking to see another player or two depart via the transfer portal between now and the start of next season.
But for the time being, here are the nine scholarship players who are set to return next year.

- De’Vion Harmon
- Will Richardson
- Rivaldo Soares
Forwards
- Ethan Butler
