Oregon Ducks Land Inside Top Ten of Initial College Football Playoff Rankings
On Tuesday, the College Football Playoff selection committee revealed its initial 2023 rankings. If they are any indicator, the Oregon Ducks are in the mix for a CFP spot.
Oregon (7-1, 4-1 Pac-12) landed at No. 6 in the first iteration of the 2023 rankings.
Ohio State came in at No. 1 overall, and Georgia, Michigan, and Florida State rounded out the top four. Washington, which topped Oregon 36-33 when the two teams met on Oct. 14, landed at No. 5.
Tuesday’s rankings were the first of six that will be rolled out each Tuesday until the end of the regular season. On Dec. 3, following conference championship week, the CFP selection committee will release its final rankings and reveal the playoff field.
Following Oregon’s blowout win over Utah last Saturday, Ducks’ head coach Dan Lanning was asked if his team is capable of reaching the national title game this season.

“If we continue to grow and continue to elevate our performance moving forward and continue to not be satisfied and don’t read your press clippings,” Lanning said. “I don’t know where this team could be. But I’ll tell you this: That locker room’s not going to do that. These dudes are about to work as hard as they’ve ever worked on a Monday just because I know them. To have success and go play for championships, it takes a little bit of luck. It takes a little bit of good fortune. It takes being healthy. We have a winning team, and we have a special team in our locker room. But we have to continue to perform. And that’s what’s great about college football on any given Saturday.”
