Micah Williams’ banner year got even better over the weekend.

Oregon’s superstar second-year freshman recorded the second-fastest 100-meter time ever by a collegian on Friday when he won his qualifying heat in 9.86 seconds during the NCAA West preliminary meet in Fayetteville, Ark.

Williams’ time was also the second-fastest in the world this year. It was a standout performance that set the tone for the day as 23 Oregon men and women qualified for June’s NCAA national championship meet in Eugene.

The Oregon women were led by a strong performance from their sprinters, with Jadyn Mays, Jasmine Montgomery, and Kemba Nelson all qualifying in the 100.

A handful of Ducks did have disappointing afternoons in Fayetville. Reed Brown entered the meet as the No. 3-ranked men’s 1,500 runners in the nation with a season-best of 3:36.44, but finished 18th at the regional meet.

Alessia Zarvo owned the second-best 10,000 time in the nation prior to this weekend but finished 30th in her semifinal heat and did not qualify for nationals.

Aneta Konieczek, who ran the 3,000-meter steeplechase for Poland at the 2020 Rio Olympics, failed to qualify for the national championship meet as well.

Here’s a rundown of which Ducks will be competing at Hayward Field from June 8-11.
