2 Penn State players make FWAA true freshman All-America team; former Lions enter, leave transfer portal: Newsstand

Penn State news, notes, and updates for Jan. 13 include more honors for two Lions freshmen, transfer portal decisions, and more.

Penn State tweets of the day

We start with the latest recognition for two first-year members of head coach James Franklin’s roster. The Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) released their freshman All-America team on Thursday.

Linebacker Abdul Carter was selected after making 56 tackles (10.5 for loss) and recording 6.5 sacks, five quarterback hurries, and two forced fumbles. He is the first Lions linebacker to make the team since Dan Connor, who is now an analyst for the program, did in 2004.

The other honoree was Nicholas Singleton. He was the lone all-purpose position pick after rushing for 1,061 yards and 12 touchdowns while also returning a kickoff 100 yards for a score.

Penn State had the most selections of any Big Ten school.

Elsewhere, more transfer portal news was made on Thursday. Lions linebacker Jamari Buddin is now looking for a new school after two seasons in State College. Walk-on long snapper Michael Wright entered the portal in December and picked Boston College as his next destination. And, former PSU defensive tackle Fatorma Mulbah is off to West Virginia.
