Penn State news, notes, and updates for May 1 include big news for the wrestling and football programs plus much more.

It’s time to dive into Monday’s top tweets and headlines about the Nittany Lions and college athletics.

Penn State tweets of the day

We start with wrestling. After current Lion Aaron Brooks and alums Jason Nolf and Nick Lee won US open titles on Friday, a quartet of future Penn State wrestlers joined them in doing so at the premiere freestyle event in Las Vegas, Nev., on Sunday. Class of 2023 commit Tyler Kasak won the 65 kilograms (143.3 pounds) title. Class of 2024 commit Luke Lilledahl won the 57 kilograms (125 pounds) bracket. And, incoming transfer Mitchell Mesenbrink won the 74 kilograms (163 pounds) weight class. They competed in the U20 division and are now one step closer to making the World team.

Last but not least, Class of 2024 commit Zach Ryder won the 80 kilograms division in the U17 freestyle tournament.

In other news, Penn State football made the top five for four-star Baltimore, Md., linebacker and On300 member Dejuan Lane. It is joined by Notre Dame, Michigan, Maryland, and Georgia. A decision date is not yet in for the 6-foot-2, 200-pound senior-to-be.

Quote of the day

“I would say what separated them was that they showed they’re a very genuine organization. There was nothing about them that was fake. Some schools show you and tell you all the good things, but Penn State was just real with me the entire way. When I walked in there and visited the first time, it felt like a business. It’s really well run and they do things the right way.

“I just realized quickly that I could see myself there. Then, when you look at all the great players that came from Penn State, in that moment, I really dialed in and looked at them in a whole different way.”
