Abdul Carter injury update: Penn State All-American evalauted in the first half; what's the latest on his status?
UPDATE: What did James Franklin say about Carter after the game?
Original story:
GLENDALE, Ariz. — Penn State All-American defensive end Abdul Carter was evaluated in the sideline injury tent during the first half of the Nittany Lions’ College Football Playoff quarterfinal round matchup with Boise State at State Farm Stadium. After coming off the field slowly on the Broncos’ first drive of the second quarter, Carter initially spent some time in the sideline injury tent. He returned for the next Boise State drive but soon came off the field favoring his left arm or shoulder. After being checked out, he left the tent and returned to a sideline exercise bike. He was later seen going through more tests. Those included swinging his arms to presumably check on what appears to be a shoulder or arm issue.
This post will be updated when more information becomes available. ESPN reported at 10:08 p.m. ET that there is no official word on Carter’s status. At the time of the injury, the Lions led the Broncos 14-7 midway through the second quarter. Through the first 23 minutes of this game, Carter did not have any counting stats. But, he did draw a hold, which the Lions declined.

Carter did not take the field for the Lions’ next defensive drive, which started with around five minutes to go in the first half. He then remains on the sideline without his helmet for the second straight series. Carter is still on the sideline during the Lions’ first defensive possession of the second half, and now its second, as well. It looks unlikely that he will return tonight.

Penn State scored on its first two drives. Drew Allar now has two touchdown passes. His first was a picture-perfect 11-yard drop in the bucket to All-American tight end Tyler Warren. His second was a 38-yard scoring strike to receiver Omari Evans on a deep route. The Broncos got on the board when fullback Tyler Crowe scored from eight yards out.
