Abdul Carter won't work out at Penn State Pro Day on Friday, Adam Schefter says, amid injury recovery

One of the biggest questions entering Friday’s Pro Day at Penn State has been answered. All-American and projected top-five pick Abdul Carter will not work out in State College for the same reason he did not take the field at the NFL Combine back in February.
“He is still finishing up rehab on the shoulder injury he had from the Boise State game,” Carter’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, told ESPN’s Adam Schefter. “He may still do a workout for teams sometime in mid April.”
One thing Schefter’s latest report does not reveal is an update on the status of a different injury for the draft’s top edge rusher and former Penn State star. At the Combine, medical testing found a stress fracture in Carter’s right foot. His management team ultimately elected not to have surgery performed on it.
“After consulting with doctors again this morning, the plan is for Abdul Carter to work out at his Pro Day and not have surgery,” Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network wrote on Twitter last month. “He has reported no pain for what is a small stress reaction in his foot. The belief is, despite the scare, he should be ok.”
What’s next for Penn State star Abdul Carter?
He might be OK, and surely his rehab continues to progress. But, the plan to work out at Pro Day is no longer happening. We’ll see if those mid-April private workouts come to fruition or not.

NFL teams likely don’t need to see Carter do any more drills or on-field work anyway. His Penn State film speaks for itself. Some media mock drafts say he’ll be the No. 1 overall pick at the end of April when the Draft is held in Green Bay, Wisc. And, all agree he’ll be one of the first players off the board. But, with this new news, evaluators may have a different tune in the days ahead.
“I didn’t talk to teams that were too overly concerned there,” NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah said on The Rich Eisen Show earlier this month. “There were the two options – you can kind of rest it and then still go through the process in the spring, or you could have the surgery. I enquired, ‘Hey, if he has the surgery, now it’s obviously a longer recovery. Is that a major issue?’ It sounds like that’s a little more commonplace than maybe I thought. I didn’t gather there was a ton of concern there with him.
“But he goes to his Pro Day, we’ll see. what that looks like. If he comes out of that looking good and feeling good, he’s not gonna move on my list.”
