Penn State continues to learn news that will shape its roster in 2025. Most of the decision-making is now out of the way. Tuesday and Wednesday of last week were filled with announcements from numerous Nittany Lions about their intent to declare for the NFL Draft, enter the NCAA transfer portal, or return to school for another season. Some announcements are still possible. But, with the bulk of the headlines already made, oddsmakers continue to set the table for next year.

Head coach James Franklin’s team is one of a handful of programs that already has a win total at FanDuel. For those who are unaware, bettors can pick a team to win over a certain number of regular season games or fewer than that number. A half of a win, which is, of course, not possible in reality, is usually assigned so that there are no ties, or pushes, as they’re known in the gambling world.

In Penn State’s case, FanDuel lines the Lions at 9.5 wins. It is massively juiced to the over. The odds are -250 to that side compared to +190 to the under. In other words, if you think PSU will win at least 10 games during 2025 regular season, you’d have to bet $250 to win $100. If you think they’ll win nine or less, then a $100 wager would net $190.

Where will the Penn State win total go from here?

The Lions’ win total is all but certain to settle in at 10.5 later this year. The team will be favored by multiple touchdowns in all three non-conference games. That will be the case in numerous Big Ten games, as well. Bettors will, in all likelihood, be asked to decide if Penn State will go 10-2 with losses to Oregon and Ohio State. Or, if it will go 11-1 or better by splitting with or sweeping the Ducks and Buckeyes. The former comes to Beaver Stadium in September. The latter hosts the Lions on Nov. 1.

Besides those two games, it’s hard to see a slip-up spot for Franklin’s bunch in what will be his 12th season in State College. It gets byes before both Oregon and OSU. Hosting a feisty Indiana bunch that will look much different than last year’s CFP qualifier could be tricky after traveling to Columbus in the final month of the season. And, a trip to Iowa can always be interesting, too.

But, all told, there is a reason Penn State is currently among the favorites to win next year’s national title. This initial win total number is the latest example of that.
