Penn State is set for another year at Big Ten Media Days. The unofficial kickoff to every season is returning to Indianapolis and the home of the Colts: Lucas Oil Stadium. With four new teams — USC, UCLA, Washington, and Oregon — joining the conference in 2024, the event will stretch over three days for the first time. It will be held July 23-25. Nittany Lions head coach James Franklin and player representatives will be behind the microphone on July 24. Iowa, Michigan State, Nebraska, UCLA, and USC will join them that day. Illinois, Nebraska, Ohio State, Purdue, Wisconsin, and Rutgers kick things off on Tuesday. And, the final day features Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, Oregon, Minneosta, and Washington.

This year marks Franklin’s 11th trip to the annual summer gathering that takes place just days before preseason camp opens across the conference. On Wednesday, July 24 he and the other head coaches representing teams going that day will start with a podium speech that is televised live on Big Ten Network. From there, the head coach and the players he brings with him will be available at tables for breakout sessions that last about 45 minutes. The day concludes with a stop by the BTN set for a chat with that day’s assembled cast.

Penn State is inside of the top 10 in most preseason media polls. It aims to make the College Football Playoff, which now welcomes 12 teams, for the first time. Franklin is 88-39 over 10 seasons in State College. The win total includes two New Year’s Six bowl game wins over five trips during the last decade. The Lions start their 2024 slate at West Virginia.

Which Penn State players could join Franklin at Big Ten Media Days?

This used to be a fairly simple task. Over his first nine trips to Big Ten Media Days, Franklin filled his three available spots only with Penn State seniors. So, the guessing game included only that pool of players. And, it was frequently easy to make the right choices based on who was available to the media most often in the past. Last year, however, Franklin brought a junior for the first time in Olu Fashanu. It widens the pool for this year’s list. Logical candidates include junior defensive end Abdul Carter, safeties Jaylen Reed (a senior) and Kevin Winston Jr. (a junior), redshirt junior linebacker Kobe King, junior quarterback Drew Allar, junior running backs Nicholas Singleton and Kaytron Allen, senior tight end Tyler Warren, and senior receiver KeAndre Lambert-Smith.

Our picks for the sake of offseason indulgence are Reed, Warren, and King.
