Bo Basset says Penn State 'checks all the boxes' after official visit: BWI wrestling show
Penn State wrestling hosted three of MatScouts top 20 Class of 2026 targets for official visits last weekend. All wrestle at the same school. The nation’s Nos. 1 and 2 juniors, Bo Bassett and Jax Forrest, were both in State College along with No. 20 Sam Herring. The trip was on campus from Friday through Sunday, which gave it plenty of time to look all it could from the wrestling program while also checking out a sold-out Beaver Stadium for the Lions’ football game with Ohio State. The crew also saw a volleyball match Friday night.
The latest Nittany Lion recruiting updates headline this week’s Penn State wrestling show from Blue-White Illustrated. Host Greg Pickel and Thomas Frank Carr discuss those and the biggest questions left facing the Lions as the season sits about a week away. Find links to audio and video of this week’s show below.
“Having those guys around made the trip even better,” Bassett wrote in his ‘Inner Circle’ newsletter. “We all had an awesome trip and got to really get to know the coaches and squad. I had the opportunity to scrap with Zain Retherford and that is always amazing. When Zain was preparing for Olympics, he would request me as his workout partners so I have wrestled with Zain a lot and it is always great. He is a wealth of knowledge and is always helping me.

More: Penn State wrestling: Lions make top 4 for top 2026 recruit Dreshaun Ross
“I have spent a lot of time training at Penn State and at NLWC, but never got to see how much fun it really is. I know a lot of the wrestlers from training there, wrestling with them over the years and five of them were on my World Team in Spain. PSU was great and checks the boxes as well. One thing is for sure: these trips don’t make things easier and 100% make things so hard. Making a decision is going to be one of the hardest things to do, and that is why I plan to take my time and see as much as I can. Once I pick it, I want it to be my home for a long time. So now that’s three official visits: Michigan, Iowa and Penn State and they are all three amazing programs, with unreal coaches and wrestlers.”
Bassett, who is being recruited by top programs across the country, has now see Michigan and Iowa on official visits. Thirteen other schools besides the Lions, including Oklahoma State, remain in the mix. Bassett praised many parts of his PSU official, including host Beau Bartlett and meeting new program general manager Clay Steadman, among many other things. He will decide sometime next year.
