Bo Bassett recruiting update: Penn State makes top four; announcement timeline is set
Pennsylvania junior Bo Bassett is closing in on a decision. He will make his college choice on Tuesday, he said on Flo Wrestling Radio Monday morning. The nation’s No. 3 wrestler in MatScouts latest pound-for-pound rankings has Penn State among his finalists, along with Iowa, Oklahoma State, and Virginia Tech.
“Those are the four I could see myself at the most, and that’s what it came down to,” Bassett said.
“I think first of all, the recruiting process has been incredible,” Bassett told FRL. “I’ve loved every second of it. It’s been more challenging than I thought it would ever be, but it was fun. It was something I’ve worked for my whole life. And so I think for me, why it’s sped up is because the time I’m in. As far as the season, I’ve got a lot of big things coming up, and I want to focus more on training right and kind of be set in stone with where I’m going to go all in on that place, and then go all in on my training as well, rather than having to balance them all.”
Bassett, who is 109-0 in his high school career, took official visits to all of his four finalists, plus some who missed the cut. Here’s a look at that schedule:
Sep 20-22: Michigan
Oct 25-27: Iowa
November 1-3: Penn State
November 8-10: Ohio State
Nov 15-17: Virginia Tech
Nov 22-24: Oklahoma State
Jan 24-26: Rutgers
Bassett is currently No. 1 in MatScout’s 144-pound rankings.
Will Penn State land Bo Bassett?
We’ll find out with the rest of the world on Tuesday. Bassett was asked about the role NIL money will play in his recruitment.

“I can tell you this, I’ve been hearing a ton of different things at school, and practice at home; it’s kind of crazy, it’s laughable to be honest,” Bassett said. “But I can tell you that, obviously, NIL is a piece of it. But I’m more focused on the wrestling right? I want to achieve all my goals and do this and that, but I can tell you that all the offers have been very comparable.
“It’s all been very comparable, and I’m just excited to again get this out there and start working.”
Bassett’s announcement will be streamed live on Tuesday by FLO. It will be after Bishop McCort’s PIAA state dual tournament matchup with either Corry or McGuffey. The exact time of the announcement is unclear. But, it is expected to be pretty late on Tuesday night.
