Bo Bassett sets recruiting timeline, official visits with Penn State and others; what's the latest on the 2026 star?
Bo Bassett, the nation’s No. 3 pound-for-pound wrestler and No. 1 recruit in the Class of 2026, has set a timeline for his recruitment and also has scheduled a number of official visits, including one to Penn State. The decorated high school grappler who is fresh off a win at Who’s Number One in Johnstown, Pa., last weekend over North Carolina State commit Daniel Zepeda (who is No. 13 in the MatScouts pound-for-pound rankings) offered the latest on his search for a college home on Wednesday, a week and change before he heads to the prestigious Super 32 tournament.
“I will be pushing my recruiting into the spring,” Bassett writes in his ‘Inner Circle’ newsletter. “I am in no rush to make a really big decision until I get to see all the schools I may be interested in! Some wrestlers don’t like this process, but I can honestly say I am really enjoying it. My view is, I only get to do the recruiting process once, so I am going to enjoy it and have fun with it. I sometimes like to do things differently and hope everyone likes these updates.
“When I was in elementary school, I would have done anything to follow along with Spencer Lee, Jason Nolf or Zain Retherford recruiting. I definitely enjoy spending time with my family, meeting new coaches and wrestlers & getting to see places I only dreamed about as a young wrestler. My advice about recruiting to any youth wrestler is to enjoy it, handle it exactly how you want, and have fun with it because you earned it. If you want to make a graphic, make one. If you want to take a few visits, take them. Smile and take it all in! I never thought I would like the pictures in the singlets and warmups. We had a lot of fun with that part.”
Penn State is on Bassett’s list of official visits
Sixteen programs remain in the mix to land Bassett, who competes for Bishop McCort high school. He has locked in official visit dates with six of them. The schedule is as follows:
Oct 25-27: Iowa
November 1-3: PSU
Nov 8-10: Ohio State
November 15-17: Virginia Tech
Nov 22-24: Oklahoma State
Jan 24-26: Rutgers

The setup means that Bassett will have the chance to watch the Penn State football team opposite Ohio State on Nov. 2 at Beaver Stadium. He’ll spend most of his time with head coach Cael Sanderson and co., at the Lorenzo Wrestling Complex, of course. But, that will be an added feature of his trip to State College.
Bassett said he is still working to set up other official visits, as well. He also has some more home visits on the horizon.
“I am working on [official visit] dates with Iowa State, [University of Pitt-Johnstown], and a few other colleges,” Bassett writes. “I have two more home visits scheduled with Oklahoma State and UPJ!”
