The Penn State football team discovered its fate for the new-look Big Ten conference on Thursday afternoon. The conference released its nine-game slate for the 2024 through 2028 seasons. The re-jigging of the schedule came in response to Washington and Oregon joining the conference in the dissolution of the Pac 12. Reporter Greg Pickel joins the BWI YouTube channel to discuss the changes that fans need to know for the coming seasons.
Penn State 2024 Schedule
We focus mainly on the 2024 and 2025 schedules and break down Penn State’s home and away slate for each year. Pickel highlights the importance of the 2024 season thanks to what he sees ahead for the Nittany Lions.
The most notable aspect of the schedules is that Penn State has no protected rivalry game with any team. The Nittany Lions will face the Ohio State Buckeyes for two years before the Michigan Wolverines cycle back on the schedule.
“The conference handles all the scheduling,” Penn State athletic director Pat Kraft said in July. “James [Franklin] and I laughed, [and said] ‘well, we really are unrivaled. We say it.
“It gets to be a little bit of a political thing, of push and pull, but it is what it is,” Kraft said. “We’ll play whoever. We don’t get to dictate schedules. And it shouldn’t be that way. We’ll line up and play anybody and move on.”

New faces in different places than previous schedule
Penn State will still get a trip to Los Angeles next year to face USC instead of the Trojans making the trip to Happy Valley in their first year of conference play. Instead, Penn State will see UCLA on the road.
The video also discusses how the uncertainty of the future and the College Football Playoff could change things for Penn State as well. Finally, we bring the focus back to the 2023 season and discuss why it has such an importance and impact on the short-term future for the Nittany Lions as we collectively head into the new college football landscape.
