The day has finally arrived. Following a decade-long hiatus, EA Sports has returned college football to the video game world with the Monday afternoon release of College Football ’25. And the Nittany Lions are a huge part of it.

Releasing its “early access” edition ahead of a broad Friday unveiling, Blue-White Illustrated has checked in on the ratings of the Penn State roster.

Here is a look at how the Nittany Lions shake out, overall and by position, upon the game’s release:

Top overall Nittany Lion ratings

Initially revealed as a Top 100 across college football last week, Penn State’s top three overall player ratings are already known. Abdul Carter leads the way with a 91, putting him at No. 47 in the country. Safety Kevin Winston Jr. is also a 91 and ranks No. 57. Running back Nicholas Singleton, meanwhile, rounds out the Nittany Lions in the Top 100 with another 91 overall at No. 64.

(Editor’s note: Safety Jaylen Reed revealed on Instagram that he signed up for the game too late but will be in the first update of the game. Additionally, punter Riley Thompson and defensive end Joseph Mupoyi are also not in the game, presumably left out due to restrictions on NIL for players on foreign student visas.)

Penn State is a top 10 team upon game’s release

From Greg Pickel’s original write-up of the game:

Penn State is a top-10 team in various preseason media polls and also Bill Connelly’s SP+ model at ESPN. The Nittany Lions are also among the teams with the shortest odds to both make the College Football Playoff and also to win it outright. So, it should go without saying that in the video game world, head coach James Franklin’s team is highly respected, too.

During its recent rankings week event, EA Sports’ development team ranked the Lions’ offense at No. 12 nationally with an 87 rating. It gave Tom Allen’s defense the No. 9 spot at 88 overall. Combined, that made Penn State the game’s ninth-best team with an 88 overall ranking. Additionally, Beaver Stadium checks in at No. 6 in the game’s “toughest places to play” rankings.
