Brian Kortovich committed to Penn State Tuesday and signed Wednesday; here's why the tight end did so
Penn State has had few recruiting victories in the hours before National Signing Day over the last handful of years. But, this year is different. The No. 3 Nittany Lions hosted former Purdue commit Brian Kortovich for their regular season finale at Beaver Stadium last Saturday. By Sunday, the program was the clear front runner. On Tuesday, he committed to head coach James Franklin. And, on Wednesday, he was officially announced as a member of the program’s Class of 2025. What went into the quick decision?
“We took the visit this past weekend, and my dad and my brother and I went up, and we absolutely just love the place, love the coaching staff and love the culture,” Kortovich told host Brian Tripp on Penn State’s in-house NSD streaming show. “I just can’t, can’t thank them enough for giving me an opportunity, and I’m blessed to be a part of the program.”
What stood out the most?
“It kind of fits who I am as a person,” Kortovich continues. “Like seeing their hard work, the grit, the grind they take, how seriously they take everything, just something I wanted to be a part of. So it felt like home.”

Kortovich stands 6-foot-4, 225 pounds. He is a three-star in the On3 Industry Rankings. Those call him the nation’s No. 714 player overall in this cycle and the No. 36 tight end. On3 is much higher on the senior. Its rankings have him at No. 238 overall and call him the No. 13 tight end, and No. 9 prospect in his home state of Ohio. He plays for Villa Angela-St. Joseph High in Cleveland, where he had 500 receiving yards and seven touchdowns as a senior. He will be the latest high school receiver who hopes to turn into a star tight end at the college level under position coach Ty Howle.

“It just kind of fits my mindset,” Kortovich said of being a college tight end. “Like I love to do everything. I love to block, catch the ball, run; everything that needs to happen is just what I want to do. I’m so blessed to get this opportunity and join the ACES.”
Penn State continues to announce the Class of 2025 on Wednesday. Its 26-man class currently ranks No. 15 in the On3 Industry rankings. See additional Signing Day headlines below:
