Penn State football has opened its 2023 campaign with two confident, comfortable wins. First knocking off West Virginia in a primetime tilt, the Nittany Lions followed with a dominating effort over Delaware last weekend.

Now, they’re set for something new.

Traveling to Illinois this weekend, the No. 7-ranked Nittany Lions will leave Beaver Stadium for the first time this season and begin Big Ten play. As if those hurdles weren’t enough, the Penn State fan base is also eager for an opportunity to see the demons of 2021 and a nine-overtime loss to Bret Bielema’s crew excised.

How will Drew Allar handle his first road trip as a starter? Is Penn State primed to open the conference slate with another win? What should the Nittany Lions look out for in their visit to Memorial Stadium?

Earlier this week, head coach James Franklin offered some insight toward his expectations.

“We expect it to be a challenging road environment, but we didn’t wait until this week to prepare for that,” Franklin said. “Whether it’s crowd noise or whatever it may be, we’ve done that all training camp. Obviously we’ll major in it this week as well.

“For us, it’s do everything we possible can to prepare as a team, and specifically for Drew as well, to get him as prepared as we possibly can for what it will be like to be on the road.”
