BWI's Ryan Snyder gives his class superlatives following Penn State's most recent recruiting class.

Penn State signed another strong recruiting class Wednesday. Sure, the Nittany Lions lost out on cornerback Conrad Hussey the following day, but for the most part, there’s a lot to be excited about.

In addition to a Top 15 ranking for the fifth time in six years, the Nittany Lions loaded up on talent along the offensive line and at linebacker. A year ago, both positions were being talked about regularly by fans as needing an influx of talent.

With six Top 150 players, according to the On3 Consensus Rankings, and 14 four-star players overall, it’s a good class to follow up one of the best ever under James Franklin’s leadership.

As we did last year, BWI’s Ryan Snyder and Thomas Frank Carr give their class superlatives in our latest BWI Daily podcast. Who was the biggest surprise for Penn State in Ryan’s eye? What about the player who has the most upside moving forward?

The pair discuss that and much more here.

Who is the Lions’ most impressive get?

Let’s go with four-star Venice, Fla., cornerback Elliot Washington. A one-time Alabama pledge, he backed off his commitment in July after taking June official visits to Penn State and Michigan State. The Lions won out in the end, of course. The 6-foot, 195-pound prospect picked head coach James Franklin’s program the same day he left the Crimson Tide’s class: July 8, 2022. He is the No. 143 overall player and No. 13 corner in the On3 Consensus player rankings.

Four-star who could play like a five-star at Penn State

Penn State signed numerous four-star recruits in this cycle. Thus, the list of choices here is quite strong. We’ll go with Virginia linebacker Tony Rojas, though. He was the Washington Post’s All-Met player of the year on offense. However, he was quite good on defense, too, which is the side of the ball he’ll play in State College. Don’t be surprised if Rojas is a first-year contributor for the Nittany Lions.

Lead recruiter(s)

Penn State running backs coach Ja’Juan Seider had another outstanding cycle on the recruiting trail. He’s listed as the primary recruiter for nine of the program’s 23 high school signees and is the secondary recruiter for a 10th player. He often worked in tandem with safeties coach Anthony Poindexter, who was terrific as well. So, too, was corners coach Terry Smith. They led the way for James Franklin’s staff in the Class of 2023. But, Seider gets top billing.
