Penn State football enters an unprecedented change in the modern landscape of college football this year. For the first time ever, the playoff is expanded to 12 teams. At the same time, the Big Ten’s own expansion and removal of divisions means that the Nittany Lions are no longer locked in an eternal battle royal with two of the top five teams in college football in Ohio State and Michigan. With that opportunity, is it now or never for Penn State head coach James Franklin and his staff to finally reach the postseason?

Penn State starts the march toward that goal today when training camp opens up for the 2024 season. Blue White Illustrated senior editor Nate Bauer joins BWI Live to answer that question and to discuss what he’s looking for on Wednesday evening when the team opens up practice to the media.

Exclusive interview with Penn State EDGE Max Granville

Finally, you’ll hear an exclusive interview with new Penn State defensive end Max Granville. He discusses why he chose the Nittany Lions, why he reclassified to 2024, and his goals for the upcoming year. We also discuss his game and how he plays with intentionality in high school. Unlike some elite athletes who win with sheer physical dominance, Granville focused on the details of his position while playing in high school.

“Yeah, I train very specifically, very intentionally, like everything I do in my training, my dad’s helped me out a bunch of that, from the different pass rushing drills to what we do when we’re lifting, there’s always a purpose behind it. And I train so hard, I train so often when I get on the field, that stuff is second nature, because I’ve been doing it all week in practice. I’ve been doing those movements all week in the weight in the weight room. And so when I get on the field, I’m able to play free,” Granville said.
